S t a r t i n g w i t h a W I S H :
As we know Style Editor allows us to create our own Sail Boat skins in Sail Simulator and share them during multiplayer.
The following tutorial is about editing crew in Sail Simulator, and flags + boats in Motorboat Simulator. However these customizations will not be visible by others in multiplayer. It is just for your own pleasure to see only on your own computer screen.
I hope in the upcoming SailSimulator 5 Stentec can provide a similar software as Style Editor but this one for editing crew and flags and sharing them for multiplayer environment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Sailsimulator 4.2 it is possible to alter
the colors of shirts, skins and faces of the crew by manipulating
the matching .bmp (image) files under each boats folder. Changes that you will
make as I mentioned above will not be visible by others in multiplayer.
However in Motorboat 1.2 simulator as I know
you cant do it because no .bmp files regarding the crew exist in the boats'
folders.
I hope in the upcoming Motorboat version Stentec will
gives us this customizing possibility.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is how to do it in Sailsimulator 4.2 :
Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stentec Shared\Boats
You see folders for each boat types you downloaded. Lets say choose the one you
like to sail most often. Here as a tutorial example I will choose Sailing
Cruiser 33 cos I like to sail with it and it has 2 crew members you can
customize differently. For example in AC there are 7 crew members but you
cant modify each of them. The customization you will make will be applied to
all.
See pics:

Crew of Sailing Cruiser 33 each can be differently customized.... and see these brothers: Crew of AC, all 7 looking the same....
Go to : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stentec Shared\Boats\Sailing Cruiser 33\3DObjects
You will see the ORIGINAL .bmp files for the crew. When running, Sail Simulator is looking for these file names and rendering these .bmp:
FOR THE FACES :
Face_01.bmp
and
Face_02.bmp
FOR THE SHIRTS :
Shirt_01.bmp
and
Shirt_02.bmp
FOR THE PANTS : Pantalon_012.bmp and Pantalon_022.bmp
FOR THE SLEEVES :
Sleeve_01.bmp
FOR THE HAIR : Hair_01.bmp and Hair_02.bmp
FOR THE SKIN :
Skin_01.bmp
FOR THE SHOES :
Shoe_01.bmp
BEFORE STARTING TO ALTER / MODIFY / EDIT / CUSTOMIZE THESE FILES SAVE THEM in THE SAME DIRECTORY WITH ANOTHER NAME IN ORDER TO BACKUP THEM and NOT TO LOOSE THE ORIGINALS.
Open them in an image editing software. They are in INDEXED COLOR mode. In order to better play with their colors convert them to RGB color mode.
Draw, paint, darken, lighten, change, create whatever you like. Than when you finished, convert them back to INDEXED COLOR mode and save as the same file names as above.
As an example here is my customization to give an idea about what can be done:
Face_01.bmp :) me
Face_02.bmp :) my
wife
(based on real id photos I will also explain how to do that funny images. So you can sail with buddies or family members :))
Hair_01.bmp
Hair_02.bmp
Pantalon_012.bmp
Pantalon_022.bmp
Shirt_01.bmp
Shirt_02.bmp
Sleeve_01.bmp
With these files replacing the originals you got the crew you see on top of the page, left picture.
To get the chocolate skin and the green shoes of the brothers in the AC crew at right picture , the originals were replaced by:
Skin_01.bmp
Face_01.bmp
Shoe_01.bmp
MAKE SURE YOUR NEW .bmp FILES HAS THE ORIGINAL FILE NAMES .
FOR EACH BOAT TYPE YOU SHOULD EDIT THE .bmp FILES IN THEIR OWN "3DObjects" DIRECTORY.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get an id photo. Scan it. Lets say you have something like this :
Open it in an image
editing software. Now lets get both sides of the face symetric to each other:
Either you pic up
right side of the pic,
duplicate it, flip horizontal and paste to left of it:
1.
Or you pic up left
side of the pic,
duplicate it, flip horizontal and paste to right of it:
2.
From one pic we got 2 different funny pics in which the face has 100% symetry.
At the result pics, these skinny or fat appearance will depend on how the face was facing the camera in the original id photo. Try with different id photos. Most results will be funny.
At the begining an id photo with straight look at the camera will have less distortion in the 2 end result pics.
Here first
one looks better.
We will work with that.
After obtaining your 100% symetric id photo follow the below steps:
> open the original face_01.bmp in an image editing software. Convert it from Indexed color to RGB color.

>> overlap the 100%symetric id photo on it as a new layer. To see both, lower the opacity of the new layer :
>>> scale or even distort it in order to make eyes on eyes, lips on lips, nose on nose :
>>>> put back the opacity of the new layer to the normal:
>>>>> pic up a color sample from the face skin. Color and fill around the face with that color:
Here you have
the new face_01.bmp. Dont forget to convert it back to Indexed Color mode
and save.
See the result in Sail Simulator with the face_01.bmp we have just made :
hmmm see
the one I use currently :
I think the
one I made for this tutorial looks nicer. Time for the change ;)

E d i t i n g M o t o r B o a t s :
In Motorboat Simulator 1.2 you can modify and edit the motorboat skins except KNRM .
However these customizations will not be visible by others in multiplayer.
It is just for your own pleasure to see only on your own computer screen.
Go to : C:\Program Files\Stentec\Motorboat Simulator 1\Boats
You will see the ORIGINAL .bmp files under each boat's 3dObjetcs directory. When running, Motorbaot Simulator is looking for these file names and rendering these .bmp .
BEFORE STARTING TO ALTER / MODIFY / EDIT / CUSTOMIZE THESE FILES SAVE THEM in THE SAME DIRECTORY WITH ANOTHER NAME IN ORDER TO BACKUP THEM and NOT TO LOOSE THE ORIGINALS.
In Motorboat Simulator these .bmp files are in RGB color mode so no need to change anything about that.
Lets have a look at the Cruiser, Runabout and No Limit 1500.
---------------------------------------------
Original .bmp skin for Cruiser is:
Cruiser
Hull.bmp which results the default view :

You can change the colors and text in Cruiser Hull.bmp an get something like this for example:
which will result:

---------------------------------------------------------------
There are 2 Original .bmp skins for Runabout:
|
|
|
|
|
Runabout Hull.bmp |
Runabout Deck Engine.bmp |
Default View |
You can change the colors and text in these two .bmp and get something like this for example:
![]() |
![]() |
![]()
|
---------------------------------------------------------------
Also for No Limit 1500 there are 2 Original .bmp skins :
|
|
|
|
|
NoLimit Hull.bmp |
NoLimit Cabin.bmp |
Default View |
You can change the colors and text in these two .bmp and get something like this for example:
![]() |
![]() |
![]()
|
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Motorboat Simulator 1.2 you can modify and edit the flags.
However these customizations will not be visible by others in multiplayer.
It is just for your own pleasure to see only on your own computer screen.
Go to : C:\Program Files\Stentec\Motorboat Simulator 1\Boats\
You will see a flag.bmp file under each boat's 3dObjetcs directory. When running, Motorbaot Simulator is looking for these file and rendering this flag.bmp . These flag.bmp files are in RGB color mode so no need to change anything about that. The deafult is a Dutch flag. With the help of an image editing software you can change it to other country flags :

or to the flag of your yacht club for example:
